This is a non-scientific visual comparison of two digital patterns made for northern coniferous forests. Canadian CADPAT is now rather old pattern and newer patterns like Finnish m05 have more sophisticated pattern design.
M05 top, CADPAT bottom.

M05 disappears quite fast when distance grows.
However, with darker background like spruce tree CADPAT disappears too. M05 on left, CADPAT on right on the same branch.

So, personally I would choose Finnish m05 because it works better at open areas and with lighter background. CADPAT is still good choice for northern forests, but it has a tendency to appear a “dark blob” without a dark background (like spruce).
